When cabaret director
Shellen Lubin was looking for a last-minute replacement to join
Cynthia Enfield on backing vocals to work with singer
Steven Chera and
The Bob Kaye Quintet, I was happy to step in and work with an amazing group of musicians.
We started with jazz/crooner standards in the performances at
The Metropolitan Room and Don't Tell Mama, and moved on to 1960s pop and soul for a few more DTM and Axelrod Performing Arts performances. It was during the 1960s material (favourite moment for me: the 3-part harmonies in the chorus of The Zombies'
She's Not There) that I learned the power of a set of false eyelashes and a good blow-out.
Steven recorded a self-titled album during this time with Steve Addabbo at
Shelter Island Sound, and Cynthia and I did backing vocals on three tracks.
We went back into the studio in December 2010 to record three more tracks with Steven for his new album!
